1 In 3 Kids Have High Cholesterol: Heart Disease Is Top Cause Of Death Globally

April 02, 2014

International Business Times | By Sally Turner | April 01 2014 The World Health Organization (WHO) has found in 2011 and 2012 that the leading cause of death globally is heart disease. Now, our kids may be at risk, with a new study that has found that 1/3 children have high cholesterol which can led to heart disease.

The research team was led by a pediatric cardiologist at Texas Children’s hospital, where they examined the medical records of more than 12,000 children aged 9-11. 30% of the children were at risk of developing elevated cholesterol levels. It was also found that bad cholesterol was more common in the boys, with obesity and lifestyle playing as huge catalysts in the results.
